Bio
Jodi Carlson is a Hudson Valley-based multidisciplinary artist working across metal sculpture, photography, and paper collage. Her work explores energy, movement, resilience, and transformation — themes she approaches through close observation, curiosity, and a deep engagement with meditation and presence.
Carlson has been welding for nearly two decades, drawn to the physicality of bending, cutting, and shaping metal into forms that feel fluid and alive. She often works with discarded and repurposed objects, letting an unexpected shape suggest what it might become. Her sculptures have been exhibited throughout the Hudson Valley in group and individual shows, including a large-scale indoor and outdoor exhibition at Katonah Village Library, with recent works including Radiant Energy, Dreamer, and Blue Vortex/Energy Spiral.
Her photography grew out of a lifelong fascination with lilies, inherited from her aunt, and centers on close-up studies of color, movement, and stillness — work presented individually as Spirit of a Lily. More recently, she has developed a paper collage practice built around lotus silhouettes, exhibited as her Lotus Series — work that reflects her ongoing meditation practice and invites viewers into moments of quiet and presence.
Before turning to art full-time, Carlson spent years working in occupational therapy, helping people find creative ways to accomplish what they believed they could no longer do — an orientation toward possibility that continues to shape how she approaches her materials and her practice today. She now works as a full-time professional artist based in the Hudson Valley.
